Not all cars that are recovered are from accidents.  Most of the time recovery trucks are used to pickup broken down vehicles that are having engine troubles.  In these cases the cars are unable to move and the only way that they can be taken away would be for a recovery truck to take them away.

The recovery business is a thriving business that is supported by a billion dollar industry.  Those who are interested in entering this business have to find reliable recovery trucks for sale that will last for years to come.

Tow trucks are very sturdy vehicles and are very useful when pulling around large very heavy vehicles.  Knowing that the towing business is such a thriving business recovery trucks are very much in demand.  Deciding on a recovery truck can be a task in itself.  Mainly their are three categories of recovery trucks, flatbed tow trucks, hook and chain trucks and axle cradling tow trucks.   Of all three the oldest is the hook and chain tow trucks.

Hook and chain recovery trucks - These tow trucks come with a boom that attaches to the back of the tower's vehicle. From the boom a chain with a hook is attached to the vehicle's axle.  The chain is then adjusted to provide tension between the axle and the boom.  Once tension is achieved the boom will lift the vehicle up and place the front wheels up onto a rubberized area attached to the tow truck.  The back wheels of the towed vehicle remain on the road.

Flatbed tow trucks or rollback tow trucks utilize a flat bed on the back of the truck to carry towing vehicles.  The flatbed can tilt up and down to receive the vehicle.  The owner of the vehicle being towed needs to release the parking brakes on their vehicle for the tow truck to pull the vehicle onto the flatbed.  Chains are attached to the axles of the towed vehicles and a winch pulls the vehicle onto the flatbed.  Once the car is pulled onto the flatbed it is tilted back in place to the horizontal plan and the car is chained down to keep it from moving.

Axle cradling tow trucks or Wheel-lift trucks - These trucks are usually used by repossession agents or city parking authorities.  They work on the premise of moving a large arm underneath the back or front tires and grabbing the tires and pushing them up off the ground.  The attendant then ties the claws to the tires and removes the vehicles.  Parking authorities are able to remove cars in record times with the magnificent vehicles.  This is why most companies use these types of recovery trucks.
