To begin with, today the Peterbilt Company produces some serious heavy duty trucks. They can be used for long haul or for heavy duty trucking over short distances. Since the Peterbilt was manufactured initially as a logging truck, they still produce some of the best logging flat bed trucks in the world. They are shipped all over the world and used almost every where. The Peterbilt trucks are very strong, rugged and built to last. The new trucks have taken on technology and the interiors resemble that of a luxury car. This is direction which the truck company is moving. One of the distinct design features of Peterbilt trucks was the design of the Narrow nose engine bay. This was typically seen in the 50’s through to the 70’s. The front grill of the truck was distinctive with blades which ran vertical to the cabin. This design was typical for a Peterbilt. This made the truck look rugged and aggressive. This was a very popular design and lasted for several decades. Then came the flat front design. This was popular up until the 90’s. The entire front end of the vehicle was flat and vertical. This was also a very popular design but with the advances in wind tunnel technology and the need for better efficiency, it was discarded. Today we see the same narrow nose concept but in a very stream lined fashion. The cabin of the truck resembles the body work of a sports car and its drag coefficient is almost the same as a sedan. This means that they are exceptionally fuel efficient and can also attain unimaginable speeds for a truck.

The long haul trucks of the Peterbilt Company are the most popular. They are extremely well done, strong, and rugged, have a lot of essential and luxury features and is total value for money. They are setting industry standards every time the company comes up with a new model. The popularity of these trucks is phenomenal with the American public and we can see them displayed at trucking shows.
